Electronic signature tools: compare 40 options
Signing your own PDF, asking one person to sign, and coordinating a company approval process are different jobs. Use this map of 40 services to build a shortlist around your document, recipients and record-keeping needs before buying a plan.
A comparison by the maker of DocAISign, based on official product documentation. We have not independently tested every competitor or verified every plan. Product names belong to their owners.
DocAISign paid checkout is not currently enabled. Self-signing is free; check your available sends and the Pricing page before planning a request.
Start with the document and the recipient
First decide whether you need your own signature or a request sent to somebody else. Placing a signature image on a PDF does not, by itself, create an invitation, track a recipient or produce a record of the other person completing the request.
For repeatable business work, list the people who must sign, approval steps and final storage destination. Three sequential signers and a CRM hand-off are different requirements from one occasional request. Bring the same representative PDF, with private information removed, to every trial.
- Smallpdf, Sign.com or DocAISign: self-sign or request?
- Fill out a PDF before signing: choose an editor or a request tool
- Pay-as-you-go e-signatures: compare requests, credits and subscriptions
- Signeasy or browser PDF signing: do you need a mobile app?
- Box Sign vs DocAISign: signing where your files live
- Google Workspace eSignature vs DocAISign: check access first
- Papersign vs DocAISign: form-generated documents or a finished PDF?
- Sign a PDF online free without uploading it
- Digital signature vs electronic signature: what “instant” signing tools add
A practical map of the market
The table below is an editorial shortlist based on linked official documentation, not hands-on benchmarking of every service. A listed capability is not a promise that every plan includes it. Check the current product, tier, billing term, regional availability and limits.
A PDF editor can be the right starting point when the document still needs corrections or form content. A dedicated signing workflow is useful for invitations, routing and reusable preparation. Some products cover both categories, so test the complete process rather than treating the labels as strict boundaries.
- BoldSign bulk send vs a single PDF signature request
- PandaDoc vs DocAISign: proposals or prepared PDFs?
- Foxit and Nitro: a PDF editor is not the whole signing workflow
- Moving e-signature templates: what to recheck after import
- Agree payments vs PDF signing: collecting money is a separate requirement
- GetAccept sales room vs a signature request: what needs collaboration?
- OneSpan Sign vs a simple PDF request: define signer verification first
- DocSend vs Dropbox Sign: sharing analytics and signature requests
- SMS or email signature invitations: choose the delivery channel
- eSignature API or web request? DigiSigner, Sign.Plus and the integration decision
- Collect supporting files during signing: SignRequest and a PDF-only workflow
- PDF signature validation vs SHA-256: two different checks
- BreezeDoc vs DocAISign: free plan, lifetime deal or pay per send?
- airSlate SignNow vs DocAISign: invite allowances for occasional senders
- Online notarization vs e-signature: when a signature box is not enough
- Adobe Fill & Sign free: what the free Acrobat signer includes
- iLovePDF Sign vs DocAISign: where your signed PDF is kept
- pdfFiller vs DocAISign: editor subscription or one signature request?

Compare allowances, not just a monthly number
Write down how a vendor counts a document, request or envelope. Ask what happens with several files in a packet, a declined request and a corrected resend. Check whether the quote assumes annual billing, minimum seats, extra verification credits or a separate API allowance.
A free plan may cover occasional use. A subscription may be worthwhile when templates and integrations remove repeated manual work. Neither is automatically cheaper: compare expected annual cost and preparation time for your own volume.
Where DocAISign fits
DocAISign starts with a PDF or photos of paper. Place signature and date boxes, sign yourself or request one other person’s signature, then download the result and audit record. The sender verifies their email; the recipient follows an email link without registering.
It currently has no multi-recipient routing, reusable templates, bulk send, public e-signature API, CRM integration or formal identity verification. It does not issue certificate-based digital signatures. If these are requirements, choose a service that explicitly provides them. Check Pricing for current send balances and checkout availability.
Run the same small test
- Prepare a two-page test PDF with a signature and date near a page edge.
- Open the request on a phone and inspect every page before signing.
- Cancel or decline a separate test request and check both participants’ views.
- Download the signed PDF and audit or completion record and open them outside the service.
- Check retention, deletion and how to export records if you stop using the tool.
How this comparison is maintained
This guide is published by the maker of DocAISign. It is not an independent certification or vendor endorsement. The initial shortlist was reviewed on November 4, 2026; self-hosted options were added on November 5, and BreezeDoc and Proof on November 6. Product names belong to their owners. Promotional price tables are intentionally omitted because billing choices and offers change.
