iLovePDF Sign vs DocAISign: where your signed PDF is kept

iLovePDF is a PDF toolkit with a signing tool built in. It covers both signing your own copy and requesting signatures, with a certificate-backed option on Premium. The difference worth checking first is what happens to your document after it is processed.

A comparison by the maker of DocAISign, based on official product documentation. We have not independently tested every competitor or verified every plan. Product names belong to their owners.

DocAISign paid checkout is not currently enabled. Self-signing is free; check your available sends and the Pricing page before planning a request.

Two modes and several field types

iLovePDF’s Sign PDF page offers “Only me” for your own signature and “Several people” for a signature request. Signatures can be drawn, typed or uploaded, with separate initials and company-stamp options and fields for name, date and text. Requests can have a signing order, expiry, reminders and an access code.

What the free plan includes

The pricing table lists self-signed simple signatures as unlimited on every plan, while signature requests are “limited” on the free plan and unlimited on Premium. Audit trails, reminders, templates and branding are listed for Premium. Premium is billed monthly or yearly, with the yearly option discounted.

A Premium digital signature option

iLovePDF describes a Premium digital signature that embeds a certified hash and qualified timestamp, and an SMS validation option it describes as an advanced signature under eIDAS. These are iLovePDF’s own descriptions; if a recipient requires a specific signature level, ask them which one.

How long files are kept

iLovePDF’s security page says processed files are deleted within two hours, and also that signed documents are kept for up to five years for legal reasons. Files are processed in its cloud. Read this before uploading private agreements, so the retention matches what you expect.

DocAISign’s standard workflow stores files encrypted and deletes them after the retention periods on its privacy page, keeping only the audit record. Its browser-only tools do not upload the PDF at all.

Where DocAISign is narrower

DocAISign has signature and date boxes for you and one recipient, no templates, no company stamp, no SMS validation and no certificate-based signatures. Its audit record is included with every completed request rather than a paid add-on, and new accounts get free sends; check Pricing for current availability.
