Foxit and Nitro: a PDF editor is not the whole signing workflow

Owning a PDF editor does not tell you which signature-request service or plan is available. Separate the work of preparing a file, placing your own mark and asking another person to sign. Then test the product and entitlement you actually have.

A comparison by the maker of DocAISign, based on official product documentation. We have not independently tested every competitor or verified every plan. Product names belong to their owners.

DocAISign paid checkout is not currently enabled. Self-signing is free; check your available sends and the Pricing page before planning a request.

Foxit separates preparation and eSign workflows

Foxit’s eSign page describes reusable templates, request tracking and bulk workflows, alongside connections to PDF Editor for document preparation. Check the particular eSign tier and any connected products or add-ons you need. Do not infer a request allowance from a PDF editing feature.

Nitro documents several stages of signing

Nitro’s user-guide index separates document preparation, requests, templates, signing order, reminders, history and audit downloads. Use the current guide for the actual product you have rather than assuming every function in the wider product family belongs to one licence.

Test three different jobs

  • Prepare the source: change text, finish form entries and organise pages.
  • Sign your own copy: place a mark and download the resulting file.
  • Request another person’s signature: assign fields, send, track and retrieve the completed record.
  • Check which product and account perform each stage, and where files are stored.

Do not compare a local mark with a tracked request

Adding a signature image to your own PDF and sending an attachment may be sufficient for an agreed hand-off, but it does not automatically create a request history in another service. Conversely, a request platform may not provide the editing tools needed to finish the source.

Use a fictional sample to test both the preparation step and the recipient’s completion. Include the final download in that test. A signature that looks correct in an editor is only one part of the workflow.

DocAISign starts after general editing

DocAISign takes an existing PDF or a scan and adds signature/date boxes for you and one other recipient. It does not edit general PDF text, provide templates or handle bulk requests. Complete other form content before uploading.

Self-signing can be anonymous. A request needs a sender account with confirmed email and available sends; the recipient opens an email link without registering. Review current Pricing and checkout availability, then save the signed PDF and audit record.

Choose around the missing stage

If editing is the obstacle, evaluate the PDF editor. If repeated preparation, routing or sending is the obstacle, evaluate the request service. If one completed PDF and one recipient cover the task, a smaller workflow may fit. Keep the approved source and completed result distinct whichever product you choose.
