SMS or email signature invitations: choose the delivery channel

A delivery channel answers how an invitation reaches someone. It does not, by itself, define the signer’s identity check or the record you receive. Compare those requirements separately before choosing text or email.

A comparison by the maker of DocAISign, based on official product documentation. We have not independently tested every competitor or verified every plan. Product names belong to their owners.

DocAISign paid checkout is not currently enabled. Self-signing is free; check your available sends and the Pricing page before planning a request.

Formstack Sign describes mixed delivery workflows

Formstack’s Sign feature page describes multiple signers and approvers, email, text and in-person collection, plus text and email reminders. Verify the exact plan, setup and regional availability for the channel you intend to use.

Invitation delivery and identity checks are different

An SMS invitation and a one-time SMS authentication code serve different roles. One can direct a recipient to a request; the other can be an access check within a configured process. Do not assume a platform offers both merely because its page mentions texts.

If an organisation requires a particular authentication method, verify that requirement against the actual configured signer experience. An email address or phone number alone should not be presented as formal identity verification.

Verify the contact details before sending

Use the destination the intended recipient has confirmed through a known channel. Consider whether a work phone, shared mailbox or forwarded number may be used by more than one person. A successful delivery event does not settle who reviewed or completed the file.

Avoid sending duplicate invitations through several channels as a first response to uncertainty. Check the existing request and the provider’s supported follow-up actions first.

DocAISign currently uses email invitations

DocAISign does not send SMS invitations or provide a text-reminder control. A sender with confirmed email and available sends issues a request to one recipient, who opens the email link without registering. The expiry reminder follows the service’s configured timing.

Do not manually forward a private signing link to other people to imitate a routing or public-intake feature. If text delivery or multiple recipient roles are requirements, evaluate a workflow that explicitly supports them.

Test the complete delivery path

  • Use controlled recipient contact details and fictional document content.
  • Confirm what the invitation says and where it opens.
  • Check required authentication separately from invitation delivery.
  • Inspect reminder timing and how closed links are explained.
  • Download the completed PDF and available record, not just the invitation.

Keep a retrievable result

A phone message or email is temporary access to a process, not your filing system. Save completed files in the intended location, with a clear version and document reference. Check retention and export arrangements before relying on a channel for repeated work.
