DocHub vs DocAISign: edit a PDF or send it for signature?

Before comparing signature buttons, decide who can still change the document. Editing a working PDF and asking someone to approve a finished version need different controls. A correct signature on the wrong version is still the wrong result.

A comparison by the maker of DocAISign, based on official product documentation. We have not independently tested every competitor or verified every plan. Product names belong to their owners.

DocAISign paid checkout is not currently enabled. Self-signing is free; check your available sends and the Pricing page before planning a request.

Editing and requesting are different stages

DocHub presents PDF editing, signing and sharing alongside connected-app workflows. That is relevant if the source still needs annotations or other preparation. Identify which edits you need before comparing the final request step.

Check the request conversion and signer permissions

DocHub’s Sign Request help explains that sending a regular document converts it into a request and removes normal editing access. It also describes options for signer annotation, final-copy delivery and signing order. The annotation choice is especially important: a signer allowed to annotate may change more than an assigned field.

Write down the allowed changes

For example, a collaborator reviewing a draft may need comments, while a recipient of a final form should only fill assigned fields. Decide this explicitly. Do not use a shared editable document when the intended process is acceptance of one fixed version.

Keep a source copy with a version name before starting a request. If content changes later, treat it as a new version and make sure recipients know which one replaces the earlier file.

DocAISign expects the content to be finished

DocAISign adds signature/date boxes to a PDF or a scan; it does not provide general PDF text editing or collaborative annotation. Complete required names, amounts and other text in an editor first. Then assign boxes to yourself or one other recipient.

Self-signing can be anonymous. Requests require a verified sender and available sends, while the recipient uses an emailed link without an account. Completion includes a signed PDF and an audit record. There are no templates or multiple-recipient routing.

A fair test for your document

  • Use a draft sample to test editing separately from a final sample sent for signing.
  • Check which signer actions are allowed and which settings survive conversion to a request.
  • Open the invitation on a phone and inspect every page before signing.
  • Confirm who receives the completed file and how long you can download it.
  • Verify the selected plan’s request limits and required features before purchase.

Choose around the remaining work

Consider DocHub when editing and request controls are part of the job. Consider DocAISign when a finished PDF needs signature/date fields and one recipient. When comparing costs, include preparation time and the actual feature tier, not only the number displayed beside a subscription.
