Troubleshooting

Sent the wrong PDF for signature? What to do next

First check whether the request is still a draft, waiting for a signature or already completed. The available recovery steps depend on that state. Do not assume deleting an email or sending a corrected file disables an earlier signing link.

DocAISign paid checkout is not currently enabled. Self-signing is free; check your available sends and the Pricing page before planning a request.

If nothing has been sent

For a draft, correct field positions and assignments before sending. If the document itself has incorrect content, prepare the right PDF first and upload that version. Review all pages rather than relying on the filename.

In DocAISign, Me and Signer determine who fills each box. A signature box can be in the right place but assigned to the wrong person. Check both the position and assignment before entering the recipient’s email.

If a DocAISign request is still pending

Open your document while signed in as its owner and check the current status. “Revoke link” is available for a sent request that has not been signed. Revocation closes that signing link; a replacement request does not close an old link by itself.

If content or the addressee was wrong, revoke the pending request and prepare a new request with the correct PDF, fields and recipient. Confirm the previous request’s status before treating it as closed. Revocation and signing can happen close together, so read the returned status rather than assuming the click succeeded.

If the recipient declined or the link expired

A declined or expired DocAISign request closes that link and can return the document to a draft while its files remain available. The sender can inspect the status, make appropriate changes and send a new request. Use the new invitation; the old closed link does not become valid again.

Ask for clarification when a recipient declines because content is wrong. Repeatedly sending the same file does not resolve the underlying issue. The optional decline reason is shared with the sender.

If someone has already completed signing

A completed PDF is a record of that completed version. DocAISign does not revoke a completed signature request or edit its signed fields. Keep the completed original and arrange a clearly identified correction or new version with the recipient.

Do not replace a stored completed record with an edited copy that looks like the same agreement. If the correction affects obligations or acceptance, agree on the appropriate next process with the other party before creating another request.

Check usage and retention separately

Do not assume revocation returns a send credit; the refund policy is configurable. Review the current Pricing page and your available sends before sending a replacement. Likewise, a closed link is not the same as immediate deletion of every stored or downloaded copy.

Review the Privacy page for retention. A file already downloaded or received as an attachment can remain with its recipient even after a link closes. If you sent the wrong file, address that directly with the intended people as well as correcting the application state.

A replacement-request checklist

  • The earlier request is closed or its completed status is understood.
  • The new PDF has a clear version and contains the correct content.
  • Every field belongs to the right person.
  • The recipient address is verified through a trusted channel.
  • The recipient knows which invitation and version should be used.
