Add initials to every page of a PDF

Some agreements ask you to initial every page so a page cannot be swapped later. It is repetitive, but it is quick once you have an initials mark ready. Decide first whether you are initialling your own copy or asking someone else to initial.

DocAISign paid checkout is not currently enabled. Self-signing is free; check your available sends and the Pricing page before planning a request.

Initialling your own copy

In DocAISign’s browser-only signer, open the PDF and add your full signature where it is needed. Then use Change signature to type or draw your initials; new placements use the new mark and earlier ones keep theirs. Tap the page corner where initials go, then use Place signature again on each page.

The tool allows up to 20 placements per document, so a long contract may need its last pages initialled in a second pass. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account.

Make initials readable at small sizes

  • Typed initials in a script style stay clear when the mark is small.
  • Drawn initials need firm, simple strokes; avoid long flourishes.
  • Use the width slider so every page’s initials are a similar size.
  • Keep initials clear of page numbers, footers and existing text.
  • Open the downloaded file and look at each page at normal zoom.

Asking a recipient to initial each page

In the standard workflow, place a signature box assigned to the signer on each page that needs initials, up to 60 boxes per document. DocAISign has no separate initials field type, so explain in your message which boxes are for initials.

On the signing page the signer’s first adopted mark fills each box they tap, and tapping a filled box lets them redraw it. Ask the signer to adopt their initials for those boxes and their full signature where the final signature goes.

Check rotated and landscape pages

Landscape or rotated pages are a common reason initials end up in an odd place. Review every page in the preview before saving or sending, and move any box that sits over text.

Keep the result together

Save the finished PDF with a clear name and keep the unsigned original separately. For a request, both sides receive the signed PDF and an audit record that lists each signature and its page.
