Signature request opened but not signed: what the status means

An opened request has not necessarily completed signing. Check the document’s actual state before treating it as finished, issuing a replacement or deciding that the recipient needs another invitation.

DocAISign paid checkout is not currently enabled. Self-signing is free; check your available sends and the Pricing page before planning a request.

Sent and opened describe different events

DocAISign’s owner page shows the intended recipient, sending time, expiry and whether the signing link has been opened. An opened event means the application recorded access to the link; it does not prove that every page was read or every field completed.

Likewise, a sent request is not an inbox-placement guarantee. If the recipient says the invitation is missing, check the address and mailbox filtering before creating duplicates.

Completion is a separate state

The signer reviews the disclosure and document, completes required fields and submits. DocAISign then records the request as signed and provides the completed PDF and audit. Do not replace that state check with a preview screenshot or an opened timestamp.

The owner page can refresh its status after the recipient acts. If a connection problem makes the result uncertain, check the existing request before sending another copy.

Follow up about the obstacle, not just the timestamp

Contact the expected recipient through a known channel and ask whether the content, required fields or technical access is blocking completion. An open event alone does not explain their reason. Do not forward the private link to someone else to investigate it.

If the source or recipient was wrong, inspect the current state before correcting the request. A pending request can be revoked by its owner before it is signed; issuing another invitation does not automatically close the first one.

Read closed states rather than retrying the old link

Cancelled, declined and expired requests are not simply slow pending requests. The old link is closed. A sender may need to prepare a new request while files remain available, depending on the state and retention rules.

Do not promise a manual reminder or resend control that is not present. DocAISign’s expiry reminder follows configured timing; its current interface does not offer a manual invitation-resend button.

Use the record you actually need

  • For delivery troubleshooting, check the recipient address and request state.
  • For completion, look for signed status and inspect the downloaded PDF.
  • For activity history, keep the audit and its labelled UTC times.
  • For payment, use a separate payment record; signing is not settlement.
  • For a changed document, use an identified correction or replacement process.

Keep the completed copy before retention ends

Once signed, save the completed PDF and audit rather than relying on the request link. File deletion and link closure are different events, and a record already downloaded by a recipient is not recalled just because a link later stops working.
