Troubleshooting

Blurry or cropped document scan? Fix it before signing

A signature cannot recover missing text from a poor scan. Review the smallest writing and all four edges before creating the PDF. If a page is unreadable in the original photo, start with a better photo rather than a stronger filter.

DocAISign paid checkout is not currently enabled. Self-signing is free; check your available sends and the Pricing page before planning a request.

Retake a photo that lacks detail

Place the paper flat, use even light and hold the phone steady with the lens roughly parallel to the page. Make sure the entire sheet is in frame. Move away from reflections or deep shadows and check focus on the text before accepting the image.

Zoom in on small numbers and the document’s bottom edge. A readable heading does not prove that the rest of the page is legible. If a required line is blurred, obscured or outside the photo, retake that page.

Adjust the crop without cutting off content

In DocAISign’s scan review, drag the four corner controls to the paper edges. Leave enough room for page numbers, handwriting and the signature area. Rotate a sideways image before accepting it.

If automatic detection selected an inside rectangle or a table border, correct the corners. “Use the whole photo” keeps the full frame when a crop is unsuitable, but it does not fix blur or remove background clutter. Discard a bad photo and choose a better one.

Compare contrast with the original

The “Make it look scanned” option increases contrast and makes the result black and white. It can help dark text on pale paper, but faint pencil, stamps or coloured annotations may need the original appearance. Uncheck the option when those details matter.

Keep the source photo so you can add it again if a processed result loses information. Review a page before committing a signature. No enhancement setting can reconstruct writing hidden by glare or a missing edge.

Repair the page list before creating the PDF

After accepting photos, inspect the thumbnails and page sequence. Use the move controls to correct order. If you remove the wrong page, “Undo removal” restores the latest removed page to its previous position, subject to the scan size and page limits.

The scan workflow supports up to 20 pages. Do not keep duplicate photos merely because both were accepted. Review front and back pages separately and make sure all required attachments are included.

Check the generated PDF, not only the thumbnails

Choose Create PDF & continue, then review every page in the document editor. Check orientation, edges and readable text at a useful zoom. Only place signature/date boxes after this preview matches your intended document.

If creation or transfer fails, keep the scan tab open and read the error. Use an offered retry for a connection problem; correct a size error before retrying. Leaving the page or refreshing can discard browser-held scan work.

Before sending or faxing

  • All required pages are present once, in the intended order.
  • Small print, handwritten entries and stamps remain readable.
  • Crops include the entire content and signature area.
  • The final signed PDF is downloaded and reopened for review.
  • For fax delivery, check the separate service’s preview and keep its delivery record.
