Troubleshooting

Password-protected PDF will not upload? Prepare an authorised signing copy

A PDF that opens in one viewer may still be unsuitable for a signing upload. Start with the visible error and the document owner’s intended process. This workflow does not bypass file protection or repair an existing completed signature.

DocAISign paid checkout is not currently enabled. Self-signing is free; check your available sends and the Pricing page before planning a request.

What the upload error means here

DocAISign opens the PDF during upload validation using the same server-side PDF processing used for signing. When it encounters a password error, it asks you to remove the password and upload again. There is no password-entry field in this upload flow.

Do not infer that the file is ready merely because your local viewer remembered access credentials. The server is validating the uploaded copy, not your viewer session.

Obtain the right source with permission

If you are authorised to prepare the document, use the source application’s supported export or security controls to produce the appropriate unsigned PDF. Otherwise, ask the owner for a suitable copy and explain the upload error.

Do not guess passwords, use unrelated unlocking services or send a private file to a public forum. The aim is an approved signing copy with the correct content, not defeating the owner’s protection.

Preserve any completed signed original

If the PDF already carries a completed signature that must be preserved, stop and confirm the required next process. Creating an unsigned export, printing to PDF or changing protection is not the same thing as preserving that completed record.

Keep the original separately and ask which version should receive the new signature. A visually similar copy can have different bytes and a different signing context.

Check the new copy before uploading

  • Open the exact exported copy and confirm all required pages.
  • Review text, tables, orientation and signature spaces.
  • Confirm required non-signature content is complete.
  • Check the current 20 MB and 100-page PDF limits.
  • Keep the source, prepared copy and completed output clearly distinguished.

Source protection and request access are different

A PDF password controls access or operations on the source file. A private signing invitation is access to a particular request. Do not assume one provides the other, or that removing source protection adds a password prompt to the invitation.

DocAISign currently uses a private emailed recipient link and has no configurable signer-password or SMS identity-check feature. If a specified access method is required, choose a workflow that supports it.

If the corrected file still fails

Read the new error. A size limit, damaged PDF or interrupted transfer needs different action from password protection. Keep the current tab open when work is unsaved and use the relevant retry control only for a recoverable connection problem.
